Boron-containing UHMWPE sheets are made from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)materials, with boron added in the form of boron carbide (B₄C) or boron oxide (B₂O₃), uniformly dispersed in the matrix at a mass fraction of typically 5% to 30%. The boron-10 isotope has a high neutron absorption cross-section (approximately 3840 barns), which allows it to capture slow neutrons and produce low-hazard secondary radiation.
